Perplexity versus ChatGPT

One of the ways I like to use AI is to help break down complicated ideas into simpler terms. As business professionals, consultants, or writers, a big part of our job is taking complex concepts and making them easy to understand for a broader audience. And that’s not always an easy task.
When I come across a topic that’s tough to get my head around, AI steps in as my go-to assistant. I’ll ask it to explain the concept to me, and within a few paragraphs, it does just that. Suddenly, I have the key headlines and insights I need to grasp the topic, and from there, I can take that information and make it more digestible for my audience.
In any profession where communication is a big part of your role, simplifying difficult concepts is essential. Whether you're working with clients, writing reports, or speaking at a meeting, you’re expected to deliver clear, actionable information. But what happens when the topic is something you've never dealt with before? Or maybe it's a concept with layers of complexity that feels overwhelming?
That’s where AI really shines for me. Instead of spending hours combing through jargon-heavy articles or trying to decode technical papers, I use AI to give me the gist of the subject in a way that I can understand quickly.
Imagine you’re reading up on blockchain technology or quantum computing. At first glance, these topics might feel like a whole different language. But when you have an AI tool that can explain it in simple, everyday language, it’s like having a personal translator for complex subjects.
I often ask the AI to break things down as if I were explaining them to a friend over coffee. The response I get is usually a couple of paragraphs that lay out the core ideas without any unnecessary complexity. Now, I’ve got the foundational understanding I need to either dive deeper or convey it to someone else in a simpler form.
One of the things I appreciate most about using AI in this way is how fast it gets me the answers I need. When I’m under a deadline, or I need to present on a topic I’m still learning about, I don’t have the luxury of spending hours on research. I need to quickly understand the key points and insights, and AI helps me do just that.
It’s not just about regurgitating information, though. AI filters through the clutter and focuses on the most important elements of the topic, giving me a clear starting point. From there, I can build on it, adding context or additional details to suit my needs or the needs of my audience.
Let me be clear—simplifying complex ideas doesn’t mean dumbing them down. It’s about making sure the core message is clear and easy to understand without losing any of the substance. That’s where AI really helps me strike the balance. It cuts through the fluff and gives me the essential details in a way that anyone could follow, without oversimplifying to the point of losing meaning.
As professionals, our job is to bridge the gap between the experts and the audience, and AI has become an incredibly useful tool for doing just that.
AI has become one of my favorite tools for simplifying complicated ideas. It gives me the clarity I need when I’m faced with a topic that’s tough to wrap my head around. And once I’ve got a handle on it, I can take that information and help others understand it too.
So, if you ever find yourself struggling to break down a complex idea, don’t hesitate to lean on AI. In just a few paragraphs, it can give you exactly what you need to know—clear, concise, and ready to share with others.
