As we move into 2025, artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing content creation and SEO strategies. However, the key to success lies in striking the right balance between AI automation and human expertise. This article provides commentary on a recent Winsome Webinar with Franco Valentino on how to leverage AI effectively while maintaining the crucial human touch in content creation.

Generating Content Ideas and Drafts

AI has emerged as a powerful tool for content ideation and drafting. Shannon O'Shea, a senior writer at Winsome, highlights this capability: "AI can help with, is if I create a piece of content, how can I create several variations of that each that maybe speak to a slightly different audience or have a different format that's more suited to a certain platform."

This approach allows marketers to quickly generate a variety of content options tailored to different platforms and audiences. However, it's crucial to remember that AI should be used as a starting point, not a replacement for human creativity.

The Importance of Human Editing and Oversight

While AI can generate content quickly, human oversight remains critical. Franco Valentino emphasizes this point: "There's nothing wrong with producing content with AI as long as it is strictly edited by humans to make sure that it provides value to the end user."

Shannon O'Shea adds an interesting perspective on the editing process: "I would also say that it's a lot easier to edit your content, whether it's a blog article or an ad ruthlessly. If it comes from AI first, because you're not as attached to it emotionally when you haven't crafted it."

This detachment can lead to more objective editing and potentially better final content.

AI in Content Distribution Across Platforms

AI's role extends beyond content creation to distribution across multiple platforms. Ross Henderson explains: "If I create a piece of content, how can I create several variations of that each that maybe speak to a slightly different audience or have a different format that's more suited to a certain platform."

This capability allows marketers to efficiently repurpose content for various channels, maximizing its reach and impact.

New call-to-action

AI for Technical SEO Tasks

AI can also assist with technical SEO tasks, such as generating meta descriptions. Franco Valentino provides an example: "We use it for AI to say things like, okay, rewrite all of my meta descriptions for the website."

However, he cautions that human judgment is still necessary: "But again, it's got to be within the context of does this really improve it? Or is it hurting? Am I hurting what people are reading?"

The Need for Original Research and Thought Leadership

Despite AI's capabilities, original research and thought leadership remain crucial for standing out in an increasingly crowded digital landscape. Shannon O'Shea emphasizes this point: "With AI democratizing the content creation space, everybody can create a lot of content, even targeted and helpful content. But what everybody cannot do is provide original and relevant data that those AI pieces can then cite and leverage and use."

She adds, "So if you're able to do that, I think that's a really great way to differentiate yourself."

Balancing AI and Human Input

The key to successful content creation in 2025 will be finding the right balance between AI assistance and human expertise. As Joy, one of the speakers, puts it: "I always say that being a content-oriented marketer is like playing eight games of chess at a time, right? And you move one piece per board every day."

AI can help manage this complexity, but human strategy and creativity remain essential. Franco Valentino sums it up well: "Productivity is really the name of the game in AI. Content production, it has to be tuned and you have to keep it within its guidelines and such, but there's nothing wrong with producing content with AI as long as it is strictly edited by humans to make sure that it provides value to the end user."

AI for the Future of Content

AI may be a powerful ally. It can generate ideas, assist with distribution, and handle technical tasks. However, the human touch remains irreplaceable in ensuring content quality, originality, and strategic alignment. By leveraging AI wisely and maintaining a strong emphasis on human expertise, marketers can create content that truly resonates with their audience and stands out in the digital noise.
